Don't gag. I'll be as sappy as I wanna be. How do you think you get syrup?
This is the the first time he's gotten me flowers since our first Valentine's together and I loved them. I know a couple girls who think flowers are a big waste of money. And I totally get that. But not me! When I was growing up in Columbia, there was a rose bush outside my parents' house. (Since dead. Boooo.) I'd go pick a couple and put them in a vase next to my bed. And I just loved it. Something about that little touch of pretty was so special and flowers give me that little happy to this day.
Valentine's Day Eve was a wonderful meal. If you were in Midtown Memphis and saw two people staring lovingly into each others' eyes and holding hands... We were the people sitting next to them.
So that was great and, speaking of great (in my own mind anyways), I've been cooking it up this last week or so.
Spicy shrimp & wheat pasta with roasted broccoli
Roasted cauliflower & tandoori chicken from my Martha Stewart Everyday Food: Great Food Fast cookbook that my mama got me a couple years ago... Granny smith apples & turmeric. Who knew?

I think I'm going to start using the real camera for my pics. I'm just not satisfied with my phone pics and then I overcompensate by adding filters. I wonder how the follow-through would be on that though? It's so convenient to just email them off my phone. Hmmm.
That was sort of an in-head conversation that came out through me fingers.
Speaking of food, I'm REALLY looking forward to this weekend. Saturday, my friend Bliz is hosting our book club. We're having brunch and watching the Pride & Prejudice with Collin Firth in it. I'm making a "hash brown" casserole. I use the term hash brown loosely because I'm determined to healthy it up and not use cream or any of that jazz. New potatoes maybe. I get the feeling this may turn into more of a home fry thing... We'll see.
And then on Sunday, did you guess who's coming to lunch? I'm hosting my Graphic Design Girls! (Aka, the GDGs. Yes, we have our own acronym. LOL. Actually, JK about the LOL.) We're having an Italian themed potluck lunch and I am overwhelmed by the delicious possibilities. Here are the things I'm thinking of making and you'll know why –
- Shrimp scampi
- Pork Milanese
- Eggplant parmigiana
- Various things with mozzarella – marinated, caprese bites, bruschetta
- If I can get quality seafood, mussels or linguine with a clam sauce
Should be a good time. And some very quality girl time.
Also a good time in a much more masculine fashion, this Anthony Bourdain book I'm reading right now. He is a trip and the backstage pass is fascinating. I'm slightly obsessed. Which is ok because at least he's written a couple books so I can feed the need. I've also gotten into his show No Reservations which I never really watched that much. Between that, Man vs Food and those paradise shows (hot dog paradise, pub food paradise etc.), I am all about the Travel channel.
Alrighty, on with your Wednesday! Should be a nice rest of the week! Well, other than the thunderstorms. But sometimes those can be nice animal-cuddling, book-reading weather days. Stay dry, Bubbleland!
