So. I haven't really cooked much lately. Well, nothing new and memorable. But lots of eating out. And some of it has been realllly good. And some mediocre.
I finally tried Huey's black bean burger. Better than your average veggie burger. But not as good as the turkey - which I've found to be one of the best in town.
Side Street's brunch is my fave. And just a fave in general. I got a steak omelet with mushrooms, red peppers & cheese grits. Fantastic.
Steak night at Side Street is the best, delicious deal in town. I got the special. A filet wrapped in bacon and topped with crab meat, asparagus, and a bearnaise sauce. It was perfectly cooked... But a little much. I took the top off and enjoyed the crab/asaparagus/sauce separately. Side of spinach. Yum.
Last weekend we had a great visit with Hubs' sister, B-I-L, and niece. We had the best time and dined at Flip Burger! If you're a Top Chef fan, you'll recognize the name Richard Blais. We went for lunch and it's very trendy inside.
The menu was so much fun it was almost impossible to decide. But I'd scoped it out before we got there and decided to stick to my original choice.
The Hubs had the philly... And I can't find it on their menu online. If memory serves correctly it had caramelized onions and the delicious blob on top was homemade cheese whiz. It was a tad off-putting by how much there was but Andrew said it melted into the burger and was delish. He got his with sweet potato tots with chocolate salt and marshmallow foam for dipping.
We had talked about getting a shake but were a tad full when the moment arrived. My sister- & brother-in-law let us have a bite of theirs.
Captain Crunch with peanut butter foam. They freeze it with nitrogen so when you get it there's a lovely freezing smoke about it.
It was the first time I'd eaten at one of the "Top Chef" restaurants and it did not disappoint. A great time all around.
I was trying to be good last week but ran out of Healthy Choices for lunch. I couldn't face the can of Progresso Light I had in my desk drawer so I knew the day had arrived. To try one of the food trucks downtown. The food trucks are a sort of new thing & I've been wanting to try them out since watching the Great American Food Truck Race.
The Fuel food truck was parked outside EZ Way so you gotta figure the food is fresh. I got the sausage & peppers sammie and it was teeeee-rif.
I ate half and the other half was even better the next day. I loved the fresh red peppers with the sausage and onions. Just a little onion made it perfect.
It's been some great eating. See you next time, Bubbleland. I need to go buy some bigger pants...
