Reading between the (grocery) lines

Guten tag, meine freunde! How fabulous is it to be weekending? Last week was loooooooong. Sorta made me want to punch myself in the face. And that was with a snow day! Sigh...

Speaking of snow, I didn't play in it...

But the dog loved it

Also, I made pork chops with a honey-apricot glaze

And a egg & cheese souffle... Turned out light & airy

Anyhoo, another 3 day weekend is here with Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday. Yay! It's been great so far. Sushi with friends on Friday. The Husband isn't a huge fan of sushi so it takes an outside invite to get him there.

How can you not want to eat this all day?

After dinner, The Husband and I went home and watched Dinner with Schmucks. It was awful. I pulled my standard evening-movie-move and fell asleep. The Hubs couldn't make it through either and actually turned it off. Two thumbs down.

Saturday, I went grocery shopping... And it took 4 hours. I think I might have done it wrong. I drove out to Germantown to hit some Costco but decided to run into Ross first to look for some new jeans and a car charger for my phone. Apparently, they only carry Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and no chargers BUT I did find a big exercise ball for $10. (I've been wanting one ever since the attic ate mine a year or so ago.) 2 lines open & 8 people in front of me. The line never moved and I left ball-less.

I know that the economy is hard and companies are cutting back on hours. But on Saturday when EVERYONE hits the stores, HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE TO COVER YOUR BUSINESS. Jeeeeez.

So then I went to Costco. Where I realized that my list was not Costco appropriate. Costco is great and all, but not if you have a real grocery list. I had a vat of pickles & 5 tubes of toothpaste before I realized it just wasn't working for me. (And really? 5 tubes for just me and The Hubs? We don't have enough bathroom storage for that. And by "enough" storage, I mean "any".) I bought a floor pad for the kitchen to cushion cooking before I left though, so it wasn't a complete loss.

On to Super Target where dreams were realized! They actually had very nice produce which sort of surprised me. (I usually get my produce from a "real" grocery store so I just didn't know.) AND, Target's lines started getting long and they opened more. Gasp – what a concept. Great consumer experience.

Overdrawn story of grocery shopping: complete. I'm ready to cook it up! And those groceries better last a while cuz I ain't goin' back.

Which brings us to now. Sunday. I've been looking forward to this afternoon all week. I'm having lunch with my book club where we'll discuss our most recent pick...

Nice fonts

I gotta say, it was a hard read for me. It was a little hard to get into and all over the place. And the end, what was up with the end? I felt a great accomplishment finishing it though. And maybe it was just too deep for me? I have been attempting to turn my brain into chewed bubble gum through my love of Bravo tv. The next book I picked up was a little different...

Harry Potter, you are, like, totes deep

I'm trying to read the whole series before the last movie comes out. (It's good to have goals.) I'll be very interested to see what our next pick will be. I'm so book-happy right now. I have all of the Harry Potters to read and a more...

Loaned to me with high praise from my boss

For Christmas, from my sister-in-law

For Christmas, from The Hubs

I've also got a Patricia Hightower bio to finish. Where to start? I get all giggly-fied just thinking about it. Something Missing looks like a good time. I've never read a Fanny Flagg but the cover blurb looks good. And I have a great love of all things Julia.

Alrighty, I guess that's all I have for today. If you're not into grocery shopping or reading, this was a total bust, ay? Oh, well. They can't all be winners. Have a great Sunday, Bubblelanders! I hope your day is book-club-delicious.
