What is up, you great big wide world out there? Another Monday... And it's rainy. The weekend blew by with a quickness as always and now we're just left with the memories and dirty dishes.
Sigh.
Did you wish your mom a Happy Mother's Day, Internettie? Big Bubbleland hugs to my mama. She's the best mom in the world. (Obviously. I mean, she did raise me.)
Hung out with friends. Book Club did not disappoint and was a blasty. Even got some stuff done. But most importantly, yesterday, I made Alton Brown's hot wing recipe. They were DELICIOUS. You steam them to get the crispy skin and you don't have to fry them. Amazing.
I made 3 kinds – BWWs hot sauce, this Asian hot sauce was super tasty but almost took our faces off with hotness, and honey barbecue. Yeah, those will definitely be around again.
Big stuff going on this week. Well, in the world. I don't have much going on. The Husband's basketball season will roll on. We have the new Sherlock Holmes from Netflix. Oh, and I have a small and lovely stack of books...
- Almost done with the Autobiography of a Fat Bride: True Tales of a Pretend Adulthood by Laurie Notaro. It's not as funny as I thought it would be. She's a little... Off and strange. I think I'm having trouble really enjoying it because I'm so used to Jen Lancaster's pop-culture, snarky, frothy, delicious, pork chop frying books that reading a similar style by someone I don't identify with as much just isn't as fun. And it's a lot of short stories with no common thread. I'm not so much into that.
- So I just started gods in Alabama. Joshilyn Jackson's stellar debut has all the elements of great southern fiction, a plucky heroine with a sense of humor, a gripping tale and a mysterious dead body that needs explanation. Pretty fun so far because I am a sucker for "Southern" stories. Gone with the Wind forever shaped my fiction terrain... And it should be in the South! Just kiddin'... I hate Faulkner.
- After that, I'm waiting on Amazon to send The Scandalous Summer of Sissy LeBlanc: A Novel by Loraine Despres. Set in the small southern town of Gentry, Louisiana, this tale of lust, jealousy, and regret unfolds playfully amid a colorful cast of eccentric small-town characters.
Well, this Monday is getting longer in the tooth and so am I. A good week to you, Internet! I will see you soon.
I saw your post. Let me know what you think of THE SCANDALOUS SUMMER OF SISSY LEBLANC.
