Friday! A-Reba, a-Reba!
What a week. It may be because you can just FEEL the summer heat ready to break, but this has been the longest week ever. We did have some fun though.
A Week in Brief... And without the workin' part
- Monday, we met Lady B, her husband, and some other fine folks for Mexican food. Beautiful patio weather!
- Tuesday, The Husband & Horace played hard and church league basketball is back in season. (Excitement is in the air!) Friend of Bubbleland, Ikkin, came over and I introduced her to the wonderfulness that is Glee. Bubbleland sends her love as she vacas at the beach. Fingers crossed it's not full of oil!
- Wednesday was Cinco de Mayo and the people went wild. But I don't need a special day to go eat Mexican food. I LIVE MY LIFE to eat Mexican food. Hmmm, I think I've forgotten the details of what that's really about... Ok, I looked it up on wikipedia and this is how much we hate the French – we celebrate Mexico's victory over the French while Mexico thinks there's not that much significance to the day. Ha!
- Thursday, The Husband & I grilled out, ate some freedom fries, and caught up on some DVR. We adorably sat next to each other on the couch with our laptops as the dog tried to jump over us from side to side. Picture of the modern couple.
And now here we are... And the weekend is poking its head around the corner. Yay! Book Club cometh! Finally. The Husband's helping a friend move so I'm trying to decide what to do with my girl time. Options A) Go shopping for new summer clothes. I think I might have accidentally thrown my whole wardrobe out instead of putting it in the attic. Oh, wait, it was no accident. Anyhoo, getting dressed in the morning stinks and there's a whoooooole summer to go. B) Buy flowers for the front planters. They cry out for color! C) Clean the house. Eh, that's not fun.
And not particularly interesting... Those may have been inside thoughts. Sometimes I can't decipher until they're out of my head.
Whatever I do, I WILL be listening to my new Old Time Radio Detective app I got on my phone. It's guh-reat! Johnny Dollar, Let George Do It, Box 13, and...
Yes, that's Jack Webb of TV & radio's Dragnet.
It's amazing how much he pops up on the old time radio shows.
Johnny Modero, Pier 23 –
was a 30-minute radio detective drama series which was broadcast on Mutual Thursday at 8pm from April 24, 1947 to September 4, 1947.
The storylines follow the footsteps of fast-talking, wisecracking Johnny Modero (Jack Webb), who runs a boat shop on the San Francisco waterfront, rents boats and usually drops in for a weekly chat with Father Leahy (Gale Gordon). When investigating a crime, Modero manages to solve the mystery before tough cop Warchek (William Conrad).
I've been listening to this all week and he's SUCH the fast talking, punster that cracks wise. Some of my favorites are –
- Neither one of those fighters could beat an egg with a power drill.
- Q: What makes you so important? A: Vitamins.
- Some days you're not going to make out any better than an ice cube at a cocktail party.
- When he opened the door you could tell he wanted to shake me faster than a summer cold.
- His face was twisted up like bed sheets after a nightmare.
- You couldn't hold a lap dog with a suction pump.
- Fit tighter than a whale in a Cracker Jack box
And that was just one episode. Goooood stuff. Love it! Alrighty, Internettie. Looks like the weather's going to be gorg this weekend. Not that it makes up for last weekend's flood-o-rama. But it's better than a kick in the pants. So go out there and enjoy! After you get done with work that it... There's still a day to go. Sigh.
