Ladies that lunch - Lunchbox Eats

One of my coworkers is a foodie. Last month, after we went to Gus' Chicken for lunch, we decided we should plan a special lunch once a month. "Special" meaning not one of the many lunch places we usually frequent.

Last week, it was finally time. We decided that we'd visit Lunchbox Eats on 4th St. The place was really cute. They do a good job on following through with the whole "lunchbox" school theme. The menus were printed on notebook paper. The chairs were rollie desk chairs. You fill out your menu with a fat pencil. Et cetera.

The weather was gorgeous so we sat out on the patio. My co-worker ordered the lemonade special - mango lemonade. It came out in a big mason jar and was just plain purdy. She said it tasted as good as it looked & very mango-y.

Perfect weather for a refreshing treat

The menu was very hard to chose from. Everything looked good and the specials sounded delish. Another one of our work friends joined us and she got The Field Trip Greens and Homemade Pickles.

The salad was delightfully big

My other co-worker went with the turkey burger & fries.

Served on cornbread.

We were both skeptical of the cornbread "bun" but the waiter assured us it was a thin cornbread patty. After consuming, she said it was great. We agreed it was an interesting idea... That we might try ripping off at home.

After much deliberation, I stuck with my original inclination from perusing the menu online.

Homeroom Chicken & Grids with Mac & Cheese

Pretty cool, huh?!

Let's look a little closer

Toasty Mac & Cheese

That there's a sammich

The sandwich was wonderful. The waffle was soft and warm. And the ration of chicken to waffle was just right. (I was a little scared it would be too much bread.) The chicken was lightly breaded. But what REALLY made it for me was the green tomato relish. It gave it the little zing that it needed to keep it from becoming very heavy. So good!

I will say, the much touted mac & cheese was not my fave. It was too sharp and watery for my taste. I was expecting something much creamier. We shared sides though and the fries & pickles were very tasty.

All in a all, a wonderful lunch on the patio. And now it's time to start brainstorming for next lunch treat...

Signing off now. Good to see you again so soon, my pretties!
