Hello, Bubble friends! Sorry I missed you last week. I was taken down with some crud that was going around my work. (Sharing is not always caring.) But I'm back. And just in time. Christmas is right around the corner! Everyone done with their shopping? I finished mine early this year and I've never been prouder. I'm not bragging. Ok, I'm totally bragging... I've earned it though. This never happens.
Can you believe how fast December is flying by? It always does. After Thanksgiving, I always feel like it's fast forward to New Year's. And then I'm filled with sadness at the prospect of being another full year away from the holidays (and holiday vacations). Even the house seems to frown once the garland and lights come down.
But it's still December now. And not just December – Wednesday in December!
I went to my parents' house in Columbia last weekend for a visit and we just had the best time. Friday, we went to McKay's used bookstore in Nashville. It's a good thing we don't have one in Memphis because I would live there. It's huge and I got 3 books for $11. Hard to beat! (One being a bio of Joan Crawford and I sorta can't wait. "No more wire hangers!") After McKay's we enjoyed a fine diner meal. Followed by an evening of The Bishop's Wife and Dick Van Dyke Shows.
Saturday, The Mom and I went shopping and I met my high school BFF (and her NINE year old... How old am I again?!) for dinner at a new place called Pizza & Grits. As you can imagine, it was different. I don't think I've ever had rotel grits before. Interesting.
It was a great weekend and I was LOVING The Dad's Good Cookies.
They're festive with maraschino cherries, dates, and nuts. Now you might think to yourself "Self, I don't like maraschino cherries, dates, or nuts." But trust me, in Good Cookie form, you do. The Husband didn't think he'd like them and then I had to fight him for the last one.
The fine eating continued with one of the best muffaletta sammiches you could have.
The Mom has the best recipe and they're just SO GOOD. Just looking at that picture makes my mouth water.
A great visit and it gave me a chance to play with my super-terrific early Christmas present from The Hubs.
You know, I never thought I'd be that into a Kindle. I like "real" books. I like to keep the ones I haven't read yet in a stack by my bed. I like to loan the good ones to my friends. Later, I like to stack them on my window shelves in the living room where I can gaze upon their growing quantities with glee.
But then my mom got a Kindle. And hers was really cool. And I though, "hey, there's room for both."
And THEN The Hubs got me one for Christmas.
And now I am a woman obsessed. It has web browsing and apps. A quick Droid system. Amazon lending library. It. Is. Awesome!
I downloaded some freebies at first. Not wanting to go crazy and be bankrupt from Amazon one-click syndrome, I had to really think about it. But I didn't think long...
So good stuff and good memories this fine December Wednesday. One more thing before I go?
Have a great Wednesday, Bubblers!
