Well, Internet, after a fun-filled - almost officially over - holiday season, I'm back. Yay for you! I know you missed me so.
Just kidding. The internet waits for no man. Nor for wo-man.
Since we last visited, I had my much discussed root canal and would highly recommend my doctor. He was great. His staff was nice. And in the hall there was a picture of him working on a whale about 15 years ago. And that's cool. If you don't think it is... Well, your taste really "blows". Cuz we got along "swimmingly". We had a "whale" of a good time!
Ok. I think I'm done. Whale puns are harder than I thought.
More recently, Internet, I had a guh-reat Christmas! Andrew got to experience the Columbia Christmas Eve Service at the church I grew up in. (And we got married in... Big awwwww.) My sister and her husband got there later that night and we opened presents. (We're Christmas Eve present openers. Love it. And I know no other way so there should be no discussion on the proper opening night vs. morning. It's Christmas eve. Period!) I got the 5th season of Mary Tyler Moore as well as some Bob Newhart, cookbooks, a cooking class from Andrew, and more. Love my presents. I'm still playing with my toys!
One of the things I got was She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb. I LOVED The Hour I First Believed and I Know This Much Is True so I was really excited to start Undone. But I grew to hate the main character through the first half. Just when I started to like her again, she's reverting. I don't know... I'm tired of living in the skin of people I don't like. Seeing through their eyes. I also read Cleaved by Julie Powell and it was awful. The book has gotten mixed reviews. She's just so unremorseful for her rotten behavior and that much detail in to butchering, like, totally grossed me out. I know we're all flawed but sheeeesh.
I will say no more.
Except that hopefully Dolores Price redeems herself.
So, over my vacation, beside reading, Tryko and I went and saw Avatar. FABULOUS to look at. But, eh, plot left a lot to be desired.
I went to the movies and I read and I played with the animals and I cooked. I made my grandma's Good Cookies and both fried and grilled catfish and also tried my hand at coconut shrimp with a homemade dipping sauce. Those shrimp turned out great -
I was proud. Look at them again... Aren't they pretty!
I'm starting to feel like I'm writing a "What I Did On My Christmas Vacation" report.
For New Year's Eve tomorrow, we're going to watch the Tigers play UT. Should be a good game at the Forum. I've got the go-ahead to get off at noon so that's pretty cool. Then dinner with friends. Yay for a short week and a long weekend!
Alrighty, Internet. Keep it classy over the New Year's. And don't forget to wish my dad a happy birthday. It's today and I'm so thankful for him!
Dad, this one's for you -
